Coolkeeragh 110 kV Extension Reinforcement

There is a need to improve the grid and address the development needs of the 110kV circuits into Coolkeeragh substation.

There is no available space within the existing substation. Therefore, our preferred option is to extend the existing 100kV substation within the grounds of the Coolkeeragh power station. This is situated at Maydown in Derry-Londonderry.

We are moving to step 2 of our 3 part process. During this stage, we will engage with stakeholders and the local community to explain our plans.

After this, we'll prepare a full planning application for the Coolkeeragh 110kV Substation Extension. Before submitting the application, we will again engage with key stakeholders to enable them have their say.

October 2022

We have completed part 1 of our 3 part process. This included engagement with initial meetings held with key stakeholders such as elected representatives, Londonderry Chamber of Commerce and Derry City and Strabane District County Officials.

In 2024, we will move to part 2. This will include public consultation for the proposed Coolkeeragh 110kV Substation Extension project. We will engage again with key stakeholders to enable them have their say before a planning application is submitted to Derry City and Strabane District Council.

Engaging with local communities is essential to our work. We always consult with residents, landowners and stakeholders in grid improvement works.
